Aloha. Yesterday I attended the Mayjah Rayjah music festival. All thanks to the Iration bass player's mother for getting my friend and I on the guest list. I only started listening to "reggae" or roots music about two months or so ago and I feel like I have a very specific interest in it. As someone who loves music and previously despised reggae for my whole life, the festival was fairly uneventful. I only listen to Father Psalms Studios and their affiliates. The music festival featured some people I've never heard before and artist I recognize by name including Rebel Souljahz, Eli-Mac, and Spawnbreezie. The only reason I went is because my friends first introduced me to reggae  through Iration and I think their new album has a couple songs I like so that was that. I did not like the music besides Iration. I feel like they were phenomenal artist and were the only group that was actually a band, meaning they played all of the instruments themselves. They played a...

Although I am posting today, on July 27, I attended Hawaii Business' 5th annual Leadership Conference yesterday and was able to hear Captain Scott Kelly speak. He is an astronaut and holds the NASA record for longest consecutive days in space which is something like 340. He gave a humorous, yet inspiring, talk about his upbringing and what he did at NASA. It was extremely interesting and for this blog post I'd like to share a little about it. I could relate to Kelly because he was like me. He wasn't very interested in school and was a very poor student as a child. It wasnt until he realized that if he fixed his study habits, he could someday be an navy test pilot like some famous astronauts were in a book he read. So he changed them and became a pilot in the Navy. This is similar to myself because I could care less about school but understood that if I could buckle down and learn to accept some responsibility, I could go far in life and to this day going back to school i...

OK so although its only been mid-week so far I still did something somewhat worthy of a blogpost.. I saw the movie "Sorry to Bother You"! It is a movie about a young man looking to find his calling in life. He lands a job at a call center by sheer luck after lying on his resume. He eventually becomes the highest grossing caller at the call center and finds out that people at the big time of his job, power callers,  are selling labor - like slaves! This conflicts with not only his girlfriends beliefs but also the beliefs of his former lowly coworkers who start a strike at the company to recieve better benefits. I don't want to ruin the whole movie for you because there are so many twists and surprises but this is a MUST SEE. The movie is weird and has so many little things you think you may have missed throughout the movie and you'll want to see it again, and again. The main actor is a man named Lakeith Stanfield who also stars in the hit series Atlanta on FX. If...

Aloha, Today was quite cool for the second (semi) day off I've had in about two weeks. I've been busy writing stories for Hawai‘i Business Magazine during this 10-week internship over the summer. The stories I'm currently working on involve the decline of country clubs on O‘ahu and about local designer Rumi Murakami for our waihine issue. I've been working so much, even over the past weekend, because I needed to go to the Moana Lani Festival at Salt Friday, Saturday and Sunday to not only cover the zero-waste summit held by the Surfrider Foundation but to also model in the We Are Worthy fashion show. I do not consider myself a model so I didn't have the best time psychologically but helping my friend (and getting my COM 201 homework done backstage) was a great experience. Included below is a preview of the fashion show. https://www.instagram.com/p/BlixSxcH4b8/?taken-by=worthyclothingco So this weekend I've had the opportunity to go to ‘Ehukai beach, which ...
