On this day I had a get together with other intern's apart of this summer's 2018 society of professional journalist cohort or whatever. We met at Hawaii Public Radio and it was cool. Getting to see the classical music library and the area where people got on air was very interesting as well. So so so interesting considering that radio is a dying medium of mass communication. Considering that thought, I'm very appreciative I got to see all of this in action because who knows, maybe my children won't have these experiences or even know what radio is. The others I were with interned at Civil Beat, some real estate company I forget the name, KITV and Hawaii Magazine. I found out one of my peers there is a stand up comedian and she has a shown at the Dragon Upstairs Sept. 1, a day before my bday! I would love to check it out. I also had an epiphany that, considering the dying radio + television industries, I should start honing my skills at video or at least the producti...

On this date I got to interview Pashyn of Hawaiian style viral comedy fame. The first time I learned of Pashyn was from her work with Lanai in the Consolidated Theaters 100 year anniversary shorts before movies were played last year. I didn't know who she was but my friends were familiar with her comedy. I had to interview her for work and I'm really glad I did. She is a very friendly local girl from Hau‘ula and Waianae respectively. These days she is a full-time content creator for her many social media channels and other businesses that conduct business in Hawai‘i (she was most recently featured on a Volcano E-Cig commercial with other local comedians. I met with her wife and we had a great conversation about her start in content creation, how she utilized social media to get where she is today and what she is doing now such as helping younger artist grow their platforms. I admired the way she goes out of her way to help people including aspiring performers or those who...

OK. I'm gonna try and jump around here with dates because I've been so busy these past week but I did do something cool yesterday. I interviewed Lanai of Lanai and Augie fame. I feel like a lot of people younger than me may not know who he is because I grew up listening to him and Augie T. on the radio and understanding Lani to be Augie's best friend as Augie grew into a larger solo act. Upon doing research for my interview with him, I learned that Lanai owns a slew of businesses including a coffee line, wine line, a food truck and travel club amongst other things. He is a very interesting entrepreneur who has survived the death of radio as we see it today. These days he does 100% of his marketing and advertising for his businesses on social media as opposed to old forms of mass communication like radio, newspaper or TV. Although Lanai does appear on TV, he creates video content to license, which I think is a genius idea. To get a better idea of who Lanai is than I ca...
